A Guide to the Best Experience

A Guide to the Best Experience

Stepping into a sauna for the first time can feel a little intimidating. What are the rules? Where do I sit? Do I talk?

At Fire & Ice Sauna, we’re committed to making your experience relaxing and rejuvenating. This guide will walk you through the essential etiquette so you can focus less on the rules and more on the benefits of the heat!

1. The Pre- and Post-Session Shower is Non-Negotiable

This is the golden rule of public sauna and cold plunge spaces.

  • Before: Always take a quick rinse before entering the sauna or plunge pool. This removes lotions, perfumes, sweat, and dirt. It keeps our environment clean and hygienic for everyone.
  • After: A second shower after your final session is important for washing off any remaining sweat and cooling your body down gradually.

2. Always Use a Towel as Your Seating Barrier

Your towel is essential for hygiene and comfort. We've got you covered!

  • We Provide: A clean appropriate sized bench towel for your session.
  • Sit on It: Place the provided towel on the bench before sitting down. The towel should cover the entire area where your body will be, including under your feet if you’re pulling them up. No skin should touch the wood.
  • Bring Your Own? While we provide towels, you are welcome to bring your own personal sauna or sweat towels if you prefer.

3. Mind the Volume and Vibe

The atmosphere of a sauna is usually one of quiet reflection. Be mindful of others’ desire for silence and relaxation.

  • Keep it Quiet: Unless you are in a sauna reserved exclusively for your group, keep conversations quiet, brief, and respectful. If someone has their eyes closed, assume they want silence.
  • Silence Your Phone: The sauna is a tech-free zone for most people. Do not bring your phone into the hot room, as it can be a distraction and the high heat is bad for electronics. If you absolutely need to time your session, use a wrist watch or the timer outside the door.
  • No Strong Scents: Skip the heavy perfumes, colognes, and highly scented lotions before your visit. The confined space and heat can amplify scents, making them irritating to others.

4. Know Your Limits

Your wellness journey is your own. Never feel pressured to stay in the heat or cold longer than you are comfortable.

  • Exit Early: If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or too hot, exit immediately. It’s better to cut your session short than push yourself past a safe limit.
  • Respect the Plunge: The cold plunge is intense. A safe and beneficial time is often 2–4 minutes. Don't feel you need to prove anything by staying longer than that.
  • Avoid Pouring: Never pour water on the sauna rocks; ask a staff member to help after asking nearby guests first.

5. Dress Code: Comfort and Coverage

Our sauna spaces are separated by gender, but your comfort and hygiene are still the top priority.

  • Recommended Attire: Please wear a bathing suit, athletic shorts, or moisture-wicking athletic wear. Comfort and modesty are key.
  • Footwear: We provide clean sandals for use in the common and wet areas, but you are welcome to bring your own preferred slides.

By following these simple guidelines, you ensure that every guest, including yourself, can fully disconnect and enjoy the powerful benefits of our Fire & Ice experience. We can't wait to welcome you to your new sanctuary!
